Originally from Tokoroa, Scott Blakey completed his education at St Peters College in Auckland. He then went on to gain an A grade certificate in Automotive Engineering from Carrington Polytechnic, apprenticing for John Andrew Ford. He was a fully qualified automotive engineer by the age of 21. For the next 8 years Scott gained in-house experience and training, working for several major car dealerships in New Zealand and abroad including Toyota, Mitsubishi and Ford, rising up through the trade to 2 I C level.
After travelling extensively with his family around Europe and Asia, He came to settle on Waiheke in 1995, working at Oneroa Automotive from1999 In 2001 Scott and Raoul Ormsby bought Oneroa Automotive, which they have since run and operated. Concerned about reducing damage to the environment he has an active interest in future sustainable alternative fuel vehicles and runs his vehicle on bio fuel..
The father of 4, Scott is family oriented and community spirited and helps in many school working bees while always there to help a friend. He enjoys camping, tramping and mountain biking with his children. In his spare time Scott is a keen sailor and is often out racing the coastal classic or inner harbour races, a highlight experience for Scotty was crewing a yacht from Vanuatu to New Zealand. His skills extend beyond the Automotive Industry, and as a hobby he is a talented furniture designer, whose work can be seen in houses around Waiheke.
Originally from Wellington Raoul Ormsby’s life long interest in the automotive industry has taken him all over the world. While living and working in London for 10 years he attended Merton Technical College and completed a London City and Gilds qualification in Motorcycle Engineering with Distinction. He then went on to own and run a successful motorcycle workshop in London specialising in service, repair and restoration of a wide range of makes and models of motorcycles
After living in London for 10 years Raoul and his wife decided after having their first child to return to New Zealand to raise their now family of 3. Settling on Waiheke he met Scott Blakey and purchased Oneroa Automotive WOF and Service Centre in 2001, growing and expanding the business over the last 11 years Raoul continued his commitment to training and gain a National Certificate in Automotive Engineering and a Warrant of Fitness Inspector’s Authority
Raoul is actively involved in the local community from building floats for the local Santa parade to welding up Hangi baskets for school fund raising events, helping out with fencing at the local pony club where his three daughters ride horses. He enjoys a variety of interests including gardening, and restoring his Chrysler Valiant coupe. With his passion for recycling and the environment he has developed a bio fuel plant to recycle used cooking oil and waste from the local olive oil industry which he and Scott use to run their modified diesel vehicles on.
